BC Conservative MLA Highlights Unfairness of British Columbia’s No-Fault System

Mar. 31, 2026 – The unfairness of British Columbia’s no fault auto insurance system has been highlighted by a BC Conservative MLA.

A woman who lost her leg in a motor vehicle accident did not qualify for certain benefits because this injury was not considered “catastrophic”.

Albertans will face the same legislation in the Care-First (No-Fault) system coming to the province in January 2027.

Alberta’s legislation is identical to British Columbia’s in requiring “two or more” amputations.

Under Alberta’s proposed Care-First system, legislation will define types of injuries and pre-determine compensation for individuals, who lose their right to sue the at-fault motorist.
