Urges Government to Reject Artificial Deadlines, and Prioritize True Access to Justice
July 8, 2026 – A systemic shift as massive as reshaping Alberta’s auto insurance framework shouldn’t be rushed. The Government of Alberta’s proposed shift to a private no-fault “Care-First” system represents the most significant legislative overhaul of our civil justice framework in generations. But with a looming implementation deadline, we must ask: Is speed being prioritized over precision?
Sound public policy requires rigorous scrutiny. Moving forward without exhausting all avenues of consultation risks implementing complex regulations before their long-term legal, financial, and societal impacts on Albertans are fully understood. The Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association (ACTLA) is calling on the government to postpone the current implementation timeline. Take time to reconsider.
Taking a step back now will provide the necessary runway to engage in meaningful, transparent consultation with legal experts, healthcare professionals, and everyday Albertans.
